NEW YORK, NY- Senior Daniel Lipus and freshman Jake Byrne's first place performances led the Iona College men's indoor track and field team at the 2012 Metropolitan Championships at the Armory Track and Field Center.
Lipus took the 3,000-meter championship, topping NYU junior Dylan Karlen by just over a second. Teammate Colin Culhane was sixth overall in 8:42.44.
Byrne finished first in the 5,000-meter event defeating Fordham's Julian Saad by under a second (14:51.72). Fellow rookies Michael Champagne and Otis Ubriaco also earned points, finishing sixth and seventh respectively. Champagne (15:16.28) topped his teammate by less than a half second (15:16.65).
Junior Chris Stogsdill was third overall in the mile, running a 4:10.58. He was just three seconds off the race winner's pace, Central Connecticut's Josh Perry. Freshman Andrew Kowalsky earned seventh place points in 4:17.32.
