Second Trip to the East for Women's Soccer

OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's soccer squad battled Providence (Oct. 3 @ 2 pm) and Seton Hall (Oct. 6 @ 12 pm) this week.

Scouting Creighton (7-3-1, 0-1-1 BIG EAST):
Coming off a strong performance at St. John’s last Sunday that earned the Bluejays their first BIG EAST point, a 0-0 tie, the Jays play two road contests this weekend at Providence (Oct. 3 at 2 pm) and at Seton Hall (Oct. 6 at 12 pm).

Freshman Danielle Rice gave strong performances in both matcehs last weekend, setting a career-high of 12 saves in the 0-0 tie with St. John’s.  Against Marquette on Thursday, Sept. 26 Rice recorded nine saves.  She leads the BIG EAST conference in that category.   

Scouting Providence (4-4-3, 1-1-0 BIG EAST)
The Friars battled through non-conference play with a 3-3-3 mark, then split the first two matches of BIG EAST Conference play, falling 1-0 to Seton Hall (Sept. 26) and downing DePaul 1-0 (Sept. 29). Picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST prior to the season, Providence is led by Kathryn Hiller who has five goals and 12 points (5G/2A).   

Providence has already played three goalkeepers this season, but Jessica Goudreault was in the net for both BIG EAST contests last weekend.  On the season, she has played in three matches, allowing just two goals in 187:59 (0.96 goals against average).

Scouting Seton Hall (4-5-2, 2-0-0 BIG EAST)
The Pirates scuffled a bit in the non-conference season witha  2-5-2 mark, but have righted the ship with back-to-back wins to open BIG EAST play last week.  Seton Hall downed Providence 1-0 on Sept. 26 and upset Butler, 3-1, on Sept. 29.  Butler entered the match ranked 25 in the Soccer America poll.

Kaitlyn Ritter directs the Pirates’ offenseive attack, leading the team with six goals and 13 points in 2013.  She delivered two of the three goals against Butler, scoring in the 23rd and 84th minutes.  

In goal Seton Hall has turned to Jennifer Pettigrew for every second of the 2013 season. Pettigrew has allowed 14 goals in 11 matches, recording three shutouts.

Rice and Roll
Creighton freshmen Danielle Rice (GK) and Emily Roll (D - Center Back) have emerged as a powerful tandem for the Bluejays as BIG EAST play has started.  Roll delivered the lone goal for Creighton in ‘Bend it Like Beckham’ style as she scored unassisted on a corner agaisnt Marquette on Sept. 26.  

Rice, meanwhile, posted back-to-back career performances with a then high nine saves, followed by her new career-high of 12 saves in the Bluejays 0-0 tie at St. John’s on Sept. 29.
