Seago Announces 2012 Signing Class

CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston head cross country and track & field coach Amy Seago has announced the 2012 signing class.

Seago said she is very excited about the 11 kids that are coming on board starting in the fall.

"This may be the most diverse group of student-athletes we have brought in thus far," she said. "I am pleased to say that we have Cougars from as close by as our backyard here in Charleston and as far away as Poland. We have had more athletes commit in the hurdles, jumps and multi events than in any other year. I am excited about the potential of this class and look forward to the 2012-13 season."

MEN

 

Alex Couch

Hilton Head, S.C.

Hilton Head High School

Ran anchor leg on 2012 SC 3A Track & Field State Champion 4x800 Relay Team and finished in fourth-place in open 800. 2011 USATF National Jr Olympics Championship All American. 2009, 2010, 2011 SC 3A Cross-Country State Champion Team, 2011 SC 3A Track & Field State Champion School Boys Team. 2011 SC 3A Cross-Country All Region and All State

PR: 5K-16:23, 1600m-4:37, 800m-1:59.74

Coach Seago: "As a member of both the State Championship Cross Country team and the anchor on the State Championship 4x800 relay team, Alex knows something about the hard work and dedication is takes to achieve your goals.  He also knows what it takes to win.  He is a great student who will bring with him a commitment to achieve excellence.  He is a great fit for our team and we are excited to call him a Cougar."

Janie Daniell

Greenville, S.C.

J.L. Mann Academy

Active volunteer for Loaves for Fishes, an organization to provide food for the hungry.

PR: High Jump-5'2, 400 Hurdles-69.92, 100 Hurdles-15.87

Coach Seago: "Janie is a competitor with a lot of heart who will add depth to our hurdle and jumps contingent.  She will benefit from training with a group of high jumpers and is a welcome addition to our team."

2nd place in 400m at KS State Track & Field meet as a sophomore (2010)

Coach Seago: "Abby will be a great addition to our long sprint crew.  She anchored the Kansas State championship 4x400m team as a sophomore and we look for her experience to add to our relay as well.  We expect her to respond well to college level training."

RoShani Glover

Summerville, S.C.

Summerville High School

Placed 2nd in the Triple Jump, 3rd in the Long Jump, and 5th in the High Jump at this year's State Championship.  Was 3rd in the long jump, 7th in the high jump and 4th in the triple jump in 2011 to help her team win the State Title.  New Balance Indoor National Champion in the triple jump.  Named Field Event MVP at prestigious Taco Bell and Outback Invitationals and also named Optimist Club Female Field Event Athlete of the Year.

PR: Triple Jump-39'0.5, Long Jump-18'3, High Jump-5'4

Coach Seago: "It's always great to have talented athletes from the state of South Carolina join us.  It's especially great to have a local athlete, who also happens to be a standout on the state and national level, make the decision to be a Cougar.  We are proud to have RoShani join us and know she will make an immediate impact on our program."  

Cierra Holston

Safford, Ariz.

Stafford High School

Won the Long Jump as a freshman at the Arizona State Track & Field Championship.  Also has competed in the 300mh, 100mh, 100m dash, and long jump at the state championships over her career.  Finished the 2012 season as runner-up in the 300mH.
Has been named Jerry Lee T&F Invitational Outstanding Athlete all four years and was the high point champion at the Safford Rotary Invitational scoring 36 points. 
Has competed in five USATF National Track meets.

PR: 60m-8.44, 60 Hurdles-9.75, 100m-12.81, 300 Hurdles-46.04, Javelin-121'9, Long Jump-16'10, Triple Jump-33'6.75

Coach Seago: "Cierra has been a successful multi-sport athlete at the high school level.  Her experience in events across the board make for a very solid foundation in the multi-events.  We see her as someone with the potential to be a strong contender in the multis at the conference level.  We are excited to have her join our squad."

Kornelia Kostka

Kielce, Poland

Transfer from University of Lodz, Poland

3rd place in Polish Indoor Junior Championships, 3000m (indoor) and 3000m steeplechase.  1st place in Polish Younger Junior Championships in 2000m steeplechase.  1st place in 3k in Polish Younger Junior Championships in Cross Country.GPA: 4.44 and intends to major in International Business.

PR: 800m-2:18, 1000m-2:57, 1500m-4:42, 2000m-6:35, 2000m steeple-7:04, 3000m-10:07

Coach Seago: "Kora comes to the College of Charleston all the way from Poland.  She has international championship experience and is a proven competitor on the track.  She is excited for the opportunity to contribute and has a strong work ethic that will help us get the job done in coming years."

Christine Krakuszeski

Charleston, S.C.

Bishop England High School

Runner-up in the Discus in the 2012 1A SC State Track & Field Championship

PR: Discus-103'6, Shot Put-31'10

Coach Seago: "Christine is a local athlete who will add depth in the throwing events.  We look forward to seeing what she can do at the college level."

Rachel Leder

Greenville, S.C.

J.L. Mann Academy

All-County, All-Region and All-State.  Team won the 2012 4A SC Track & Field Championship.  Also won the individual title in the 100m hurdles and was 3rd in the 400m hurdles at this year's championship. She is a 4.0 GPA student.

PR: 55 Hurdles-8.85, 100 Hurdles-14.71, 400 Hurdles-64.81

Coach Seago: "Rachel is a top-notch student-athlete who has proven herself to be the top hurdler in the state of South Carolina.  She is still new to the sport of track and field and is poised to make her mark in the conference.  We see big things in Rachel's future."  

Briana McDonald

Phoenixville, Pa.

Phoenixville Area High School

All-league as a freshman, three time district qualifier in the pole vault and high jump and All-League All-Academic team.

PR: High Jump-5'2, Pole Vault-9'6, Shot Put-31'7

Coach Seago: "Briana is a well-rounded athlete whose commitment and hard work will be appreciated on our squad."

Alexia Neal

Beaufort, S.C.

Beaufort High School

Finished 3rd place in the 100mH, 8th place 400mH, and 7th place HJ at the 2012 SC State Track & Field meet.  Was 8th at the SC State meet in the 400mH as a junior. Will graduate top 15% of class with 3.9 GPA

PR: 400 Hurdles-64.70, 100 Hurdles-15.25, Triple Jump-35'1, High Jump-5'1

Coach Seago: "Alexia comes to us from a strong high school program at Beaufort High School.  She is a well-rounded student-athlete achieving success both on the track and in the classroom.   She will contribute versatility to our team by participating in the jumps, hurdles, and sprints for us.  Her championship experience will greatly benefit our team and will also help her make the transition into Southern Conference competition."  

Emily Sanders

Greenville, S.C.

J.L. Mann Academy

Placed 5th at the 2011 SC State Cross Country Championship.  Placed 4th in the 1600m at the 2012 SC State Track & Field Championship as a member of the state championship team.

PR: 1600m-5:11.96, 3200m-11:22.60, 5K-18:32

Coach Seago: "Emily has had a great senior season.  She had a big PR in the mile at the state meet and has a bright future in distance running.  She is well-coached and has the mileage background to adjust well to college training.  Emily is ready to contribute and should be among the top runners on our cross country squad."
