D’Orazio Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team
CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston senior Alyssa D'Orazio (Haddonfield, N.J.) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team for women's track & field/cross country, as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
D'Orazio, who completed her bachelor's degree in Business Administration this year, is one of 10 student-athletes to earn this honor in district four, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and South Carolina.
"I am very proud of Alyssa," CofC Track & Field Head Coach Amy Seago said. "She is well-deserving of this honor. Her hard work and dedication over the past four years have left a lasting impression on our program."
D'Orazio maintained a 3.73 cumulative grade-point average and had a record-setting year on the track. She improved on her school record in the indoor and outdoor seasons in the 800-meter run and finished third in the indoor and outdoor Southern Conference Championships in the event.
D'Orazio is a seven-time Southern Conference Academic All-Conference honoree and received the 2011 Family Circle Cup Scholarship, a $5,000 award based on academic accomplishment, community involvement and athletic performance.
D'Orazio plans to travel through Europe this summer and then start an internship with MeadWestvaco (global packaging solutions company) as a community relations specialist.
"We wish her the best with her professional career with MeadWestvaco," Seago said. "We know she'll make us proud as she continues to contribute to the local community."
