CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Junior Megan Fischer led the College of Charleston women's basketball team with seven points as the Cougars fell 57-31 against Chattanooga Saturday at McKenzie Arena.
Fischer came out shooting and she scored the first five points for the Cougars (6-19, 5-11 SoCon) and helped CofC to an early 10-6 over Chattanooga (17-7, 12-3 SoCon).
Chattanooga would tighten up the defense and hold the Cougar scoreless for seven minutes and 35 seconds as they went on a 6-0 run.
Junior Cathryn Hardy and sophomore Alyssa Frye put in buckets to close the half with the Cougars trailing 24-14.
Freshman Mikaela Hopkins scored four points in the second half and sophomore Deidre Ramer added six points for the game for the Cougars, but Chattanooga outscored CofC 34-17 in the period.
Freshman Christy Hewatt provided a highlight for CofC as she knocked down a three-pointer late in the game and was fouled as she converted the four-point play at the free-throw line.
Up next the Cougars travel to Birmingham, Ala., as they battle Samford Monday Feb. 13.
