CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston and head men’s soccer coach Ralph Lundy have announced the addition of Sam Redmond to the roster as a senior transfer from Wake Forest.

Redmond joins the Cougars as an experienced midfielder who logged 52 appearances in three seasons and was instrumental to the Demon Deacons’ Final Four appearances in 2008 and 2009.

“Sam is a tremendous addition to our program and we are thrilled that he will join us this fall,” said Lundy. “He will bring a great deal of experience and professionalism to our team and will undoubtedly be a strong influence both on and off the field.”

Redmond, who started in 28 games from 2008-10, scored four goals for the Deacons and notched five assists in those three seasons. He sat out the 2011 season with a redshirt due to injury.

Prior to attending Wake Forest, Redmond played for the United States U-15 National Team and was named a two-time All-American and two-time Adidas ESP All-Star.

The men’s soccer team opens its 2012 season with an exhibition match against University of Central Florida on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Patriots Point. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. and admission is free to the public.
