CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's golf team shot the second best final round of the day to move up and finish third at the 2012 Southern Conference Championship at the Daniel Island Club Tuesday. The Cougars had their best finish since a runner-up finish in 2008.

The Cougars shot 18-over for the tournament, which was won by Chattanooga, who shot 3-under.

Junior Neil Gowan led the Cougars as he carded a round of 2-under 70 including six birdies in the final round.  Gowan tied for 19th in the tournament.

Senior Seth Stuart shot a 1-under 70 and finished tied for 10th in the tournament. Fellow senior Henry Smart finished tied for 19th place.

"We played a good round of golf today," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "We put ourselves behind a little too much on the first two days of the tournament. I'm proud of senior Seth Stuart and glad he could finish with a great round."
