O’Brien Earns Academic Honor
NEW ORLEANS - College of Charleston women's track & field sophomore Dena O'Brien earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2011 Division I All-Academic Cross Country status, the organization announced today.
O'Brien set school record in the 5K and 6K for cross country and finished 11th at the NCAA Southeast Regional with a time of 20:40 for the 6K race.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2011.
"I'm really proud of Dena for been recognized for this accomplishment," CofC Head Coach Amy Seago said. "Dena works tremendously hard in our sport and also in the classroom and it is a joy to be around her."
O'Brien was one of 104 women's NCAA DI athletes from 67 institutions to earn this honor.
The College of Charleston women's track & field team will compete this weekend at the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson.
