Straka Earns Third Summit League Pitcher of the Week Award

ELMHURST, Ill. - North Dakota State junior John Straka was named Summit League baseball Pitcher of the Week by the league office Monday, May 7.
Straka, a right-hander from Chaska, Minn., pitched all nine innings and allowed six singles with no walks and eight strikeouts in a 2-0 win over Southern Utah.
Straka tied the NDSU single-season record of three shutouts set by Barry Dahm in 1992 and the career record of five shutouts by Mike Peschel from 1999-03.
It was Straka's third Pitcher of the Week award this season and the fourth of his career. He leads the league in innings (87 2/3), ranks second in strikeouts (80) and is third in ERA (2.36).
IPFW's Carter DeBoe was named Player of the Week after hitting .429 with a double, two home runs, four RBIs, three stolen bases and five runs scored in four games.
Third-place North Dakota State (35-13, 11-5) is scheduled to host first-place Oakland (19-26, 10-3) in a four-game series beginning Friday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m.
