NDSU Men Host Summit League Track and Field Championships, Aim for Third Straight Title

FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State men's track and field team will host the 2012 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 10-12 at the Ellig Sports Complex in Fargo. The Bison will be aiming for their third straight title and their fourth in five years. Matt Tetzlaff and Casey Orgon return to defend their titles in the 110 meter hurdles and hammer throw, respectively. The Bison also return three of the four members of the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays. This will be the first time the Bison have hosted the Summit League outdoor championships after hosting the indoor meet in 2010 and 2011.

Live coverage
Live statistics of The Summit League Championships will be available on free of charge. There will also be live video of Saturday's finals beginning at 12:20 p.m. The live video will be available by subscription to NDSU All Access.

Single day adult tickets are $5, while tickets for students and children are $3 per day. Fans can enter the track complex at the southeast, southwest and northwest entrances. Parking will be available in the lot immediately to the south of the track.

2011 Review
The Bison men claimed their second straight title in dominating fashion, scoring 227.50 points to second place South Dakota State's 170.50 points. NDSU won seven event titles, including both the 4x100 and the 4x400 relays. Eric Stroh won the 800 meter crown, while Matt Tetzlaff won the 110 meter hurdles. Sam Soholt claimed the discus title, while Casey Orgon won the hammer. Ted Rud was the league champion in the decathlon. Freshman Donte Smart was named Newcomer of the Championships and head coach Don Larson picked up Coach of the Year honors.

Five Bison ranked nationally
Five members of the NDSU men's track and field team are ranked by TFRRS in their respective events. Breaking into the rankings for the first time this season, Moses Hepnner is No. 74 in the 800 meters after running a 1:49.72 last weekend. Matt Tetzlaff is tied for No. 50 in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.03 seconds. Jesse Morrow is tied for 79th in the pole vault with a mark of 16 feet 9 1/4 inches, while Casey Orgon is No. 46 in the hammer with his school record mark of 197 feet 7 inches. Weston Leutz is No. 48 in the decathlon with a score of 6,920 points.

Orgon sets NDSU record in hammer at dual
Casey Orgon broke his own school record in the hammer throw at the NDSU vs. UND Dual Friday, May 4. His winning mark of 197 feet 7 inches broke the previous record of 195-2 he set at the Bison Invitational earlier this year. The Bison defeated North Dakota, 88-62, in dual scoring. Moses Heppner set an Ellig Sports Complex record in the 800 meters after clocking in at 1:49.72. His time also ranks fifth in school history. Matt Tetzlaff tied the facility record in the 110 meter hurdles after posting a time of 14.18 seconds.
