Brackets Set for Virginia 529 CAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships

HARRISONBURG, Va., April 17, 2012 - The brackets have been set for both the Virginia 529 CAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships.  The Dukes' women have received the sixth seed in the tournament, kicking off competition on Thursday, April 19 at 2 p.m versus 11th-seeded George Mason.  The men's team received the No. 5 seed and will start play in the quarterfinals, Friday, April 20 versus No. 4 seed Old Dominion at 4 p.m.  Both the women's and men's championships will be held at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.

The women's championship begins on Thursday morning with No. 8 Drexel taking on No. 9 Towson at 9 a.m., followed by No. 7 Delaware against No. 10 Hofstra at 11:30 a.m. and No. 6 James Madison versus No. 11 George Mason at 2 p.m.

The Dukes most recent matchup with George Mason came on Saturday, April 14.  Madison swept the Patriots 7-0 at George Mason.  Should the Dukes be triumphant again, they would face the No. 3 seed, 60th-ranked Georgia State, Friday morning at 8:30 a.m.

The men's championship also gets underway on Thursday morning as 8th-seeded Delaware meets No. 9 Drexel at 9 a.m., followed by No. 7 George Mason against No. 10 Hofstra at 11:30 a.m. In quarterfinal action on Friday, No. 3 UNCW takes on No. 6 William & Mary at 8:30 a.m., followed by No. 2 Georgia State against the Mason/Hofstra winner at 11 a.m. The afternoon session begins with No. 1 VCU facing the Delaware/Drexel winner at 1:30 p.m. followed by No. 4 Old Dominion versus No. 5 James Madison at 4 p.m

The JMU men last played Old Dominion on Feb. 12, a 4-3 loss at ODU.  Should the Dukes win their matchup with the Monarchs, they would play the winner of match six, between No. 1 seed and 36th-ranked VCU and the winner of the No. 9 Towson/No. 8 Drexel match.

The two women's semifinal matches will be played at 2 p.m. on Saturday and the CAA women's championship match will get underway at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Both men's semifinal matches will be played at 10 a.m. on Saturday and the CAA men's championship match is set for 10 a.m. on Sunday.
