HARRISONBURG, Va., April 12, 2012 - Miami, Fla., and Fairfax, Va,. are nearly polar opposites this time of year.  Miami, typically hot, sunny and full of beach-goers, while Fairfax is still chilly, trying to shake off the final remnants of winter and jam packed with professionals on their way to work.  However, both cities will have one thing in common on Saturday, April 14.  Members of the James Madison track and field team will by vying for top times and ECAC-qualifying marks.

The Dukes will split the team, nearly in half, as one group travels to the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla., and the other travels to the Patriot Open Invitational in Fairfax.  Both groups will continue their quests for ECAC-qualifying marks to add to the Dukes' list of competitors for the championship meet held in May.

In Florida, Madison will compete heavily in the field events.  Senior Jaclyn Smith, juniors Danyelle Kent-Robinson, Christianna Moss, and Marissa McDonald, sophomore Kristen Greene and freshman Morgan Sheaffer will compete in events such as the javelin, hammer, long jump, triple jump and discus.  The Dukes will also be competing in multiple sprints, including the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes as well as having one athlete run the 800-meter and one relay group (4x100).

In Fairfax, the Dukes will compete mostly in distance competitions, with more than 15 athletes competing in events of 1,500 meters or more.  Madison will also feature four sprinters, seniors Brenna Johnston and Aubrie McAlpine and juniors Gabrielle Poore and JaQuonna Lott, competing in three events.  Also competing at George Mason will be senior Adrena May and sophomores Lauren Privette and Sarah Jochem in the hammer throw, long jump, and high jump, respectively.

The two meets are Madison's last before hosting their only home meet of the season, the JMU Invitational, on Saturday, April 21.
