Track and Field adds Two ECAC Qualifers on Final Day at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C., March 31, 2012 - After four qualifying marks on day one at the Raleigh Relays, the James Madison track and field team followed with two qualifying marks on day two in Raleigh, N.C. on Saturday.  The Dukes' 4x100-meter relay team as well as the 4x800-meter relay team each turned in qualifying times.

In the 4x100, junior Marissa McDonald (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) teamed up with sophomores Jordan Simmons (Plainfield, N.J./Bishop Ahr), Ashley Williams (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Ciarra Morris (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) to finish second in section 2 and fifth overall in a time of 46.60 seconds to meet the ECAC standard. 

The 4x800 team of freshmen Kelsey Langton (Hamilton Square, N.J./Notre Dame H.S.), Morgan Sheaffer (New Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry),and Tiel Westbrook (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis), and senior Brittany Wilhelm (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) finished fourth in a time of 9:11.11. 

JMU's 4x1500-meter relay team also finished third with a time of 18:45.89.  Running the 4x1500 for JMU was freshman Kristen Landry (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes), juniors Stacey Nobles (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) and Katie Harman (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) and sophomore Erin Lopresti (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley).  The 4x1500-meter relay is not an ECAC event.

Madison had two athletes competing in finals portions of the meet on Saturday.  Junior Jennifer Monk (Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic) finished in 14th-place with a time of 14.68 in the 100-meter hurdles while McDonald took 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.31.

Senior Jaclyn Smith (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) finished fifth overall in the triple jump.  Bounding 11.97 meters, Smith was less than one-quarter of a meter outside ECAC standards.

Sheaffer also competed alongside teammate sophomore Kristen Greene (Colonial Heights, Va./Thomas Dale) in the javelin throw.  Sheaffer finished 16th overall while Greene finished right behind her in 17th-place.  The two completed the event with throws of 34.43 meters (112'11") and 33.62 meters (110'04"), respectively.

After their strong showing in Raleigh, the Dukes return to action next weekend.  JMU will compete in three different meets from April 5-7.
