A former member of the Creighton men’s rowing team as an undergraduate, Dan Chipps now enters his 15th season as Creighton women’s crew coach since being hired in the spring of 2001.
Chipps handles all facets of Bluejay rowing, including scheduling, recruiting and traveling for the program. In addition, CU hosts a regatta each spring, for which Chipps organizes and directs.
Prior to his hiring at Creighton, Chipps served as head coach of the Creighton Rowing Association, where he helped increase membership from 6 to 28 in a two-year time span.
In addition to his duties at Creighton, Chipps works as a school support liasion at Lothrop Magnet School. Prior to his current role, was a computer technologist at Lothtop and also taught sixth grade at Fontenelle Elementary School, where he created and implemented lesson plans while providing instruction in all subject areas.
Chipps got his start in the classroom at Foulks Ranch Elementary School in Sacramento, Calif., teaching science to grades 1-3.
Dan earned his degree in elementary education in 1997 from Creighton University. He was a member of Creighton varsity men’s rowing team from 1994-96 and was named Most Improved Rower during the 1994-95 campaign.
He was also a four-year member of the Creighton Rowing Association, serving as president his final year. He most recently has completed his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership at Creighton University.
Chipps also serves as a member of the media relations staff for the College World Series, which Creighton hosts annually.
His wife, Lisa, works in the Creighton athletic department as assistant academic coordinator. The couple has two children, Matthew and Allison.
