BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior Christina Riordan placed 31st and classmate Whitney Adams finished 35th in the 3-meter event after day two of the NCAA Zone Diving C Championships Friday at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.
In the 1-meter preliminaries Thursday, Riordan put up a number of 242.80 (27th-place) and posted a 251.85 on the 3-meter to complete her debut at the meet.
Meanwhile, Adams tallied a score of 222.60 (45th-place) in the 1-meter event and racked up 246.75 points in the 3-meter preliminary round.
Neither diver advanced to the final round, which included the top-18 divers from the preliminary session. Ohio State’s Bianca Alvarez finished in first place in the event with a score of 772.45 points from both rounds.
The 2012 three-day meet (Thursday-Saturday) features divers from the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois and Ohio, where seven women will qualify for the women’s championship March 15-17 in Auburn, Ala.
Divers qualify based on their finishes in the three events as the platform winner, 3-meter winner and 1-meter winner earn the top-three spots. The 3-meter runner-up claims the fourth spot, the 1-meter runner-up will be fifth, the 3-meter third-place finisher gets spot No. 6 and the third-place finisher on the 1-meter gets the No. 7 slot.
Competition concludes Saturday with the platform event at 11 a.m. after Alvarez, Notre Dame's Jennifer Chiang, Eastern Michigan's Kelly Hendricks, Michigan’s Amanda Lohman and Indiana’s Laura Ryan picked up other qualifying spots.
