DES MOINES, Iowa – In the team’s only event of the day, the No. 12 University of Arkansas women’s track and field team collected a fourth-place finish from its 4x400-meter relay team at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Overall, the Razorbacks finished the weekend tied for 24th place in the team standings with 13 points.

Arkansas’ 4x400-meter relay team of Whitney Jones, Gwendolyn Flowers, Chrishuna Williams and Regina George ran to a fourth-place finish in a time of 3:29.96. The performance was the second fastest of the season, and fourth in program history. The Razorbacks qualified for the championship race with a time of 3:29.56 in Thursday’s semifinal.

“It was a fast race and it went ok for us,” said Jones, the senior lead-off leg. “We started in lane seven. It’s not a preferred lane and the wind was a little rough, but it was all right. It’s been a long season and some people may not have thought we’d make it this far but we really pulled together to run hard.”

Entering the championship season, Arkansas had a season-best time of 3:33.94, more than four seconds slower than the team’s semifinal time. The Razorbacks’ times this week were the program’s fastest at an NCAA Championship since the team of Sasha Rolle, Jessica Cousins, Paige Farrell and Tominique Boatright posted a time of 3:28.78 at the 2006 event.
