BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield swept a pair of matches on the first day of the Roadrunner Invitational III Saturday afternoon. With the wins, CSUB improves to 20-11 on the season, 9-2 in the WWPA.
Paige Tsuruda (So., Honolulu, Hawaii, Word of Life Academy) scored what proved to be the game winning goal with 4:58 remaining as CSUB rallied from behind to defeat Colorado State 10-9 in the opener.
The Roadrunners led 5-4 at halftime before the Rams outscored Bakersfield 4-2 in the third quarter. With Colorado State leading 8-7, Shannon McKenzie (R-Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS) tied the match 44 seconds into the final quarter. Tsuruda put the Roadrunners ahead, but CSUB couldn't convert two 6-on-5 chances before Taylor Hanson (So., Modesto, Calif., Johansen HS) made it 10-8. Caroline Young posted her fifth goal of the match with 30 seconds remaining before CSUB ran out the clock for the victory.
CSUB defeated Santa Clara 13-10 in the nightcap. McKenzie tied her season high with six goals to lead the Roadrunners. Malia Pahoa (Sr.,
