BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - With the versatility of being able to play a wide range of positions on the court, Coast Union High School and 805 Elite Volleyball Club star Sophie Flemion will be bringing her utility skills to the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team as she has committed to joining the team in 2012.

The 5-foot-7 setter/libero/outside hitter hails from San Luis Obispo, Calif., and has a star-studded resume. Flemion played club volleyball for seven years, first for the San Luis Obispo Juniors Volleyball Club and then for the last three years for the 805 Elite Volleyball Club. Earlier this year, her team was a Southern California Volleyball Association Junior National Qualifier and finished ninth out of 130 teams. She also enjoyed a great amount of success as a four-year varsity starter and letter winner for Coast Union High School.

"You don't get much more fiesty then Sophie Flemion. She can contribute in many positions for us, so I am looking foward to seeing where she is going to blossom," said CSUB head coach Jolene Shepardson. "Even as an incoming freshman, Flemion will be a key player in this year's team chemistry because she has such a stellar attitude. Like many of the other Roadrunner student-athletes, I feel very blessed to get the opportunity to coach such a great person and athlete."

At Coast Union, she was named the team MVP in 2009, '10 and '11 and was also the team captain her senior year. She was honored as the Coast Valley League MVP in 2010, named the CIF Southern Section Division 5A Player of the Year in 2011 as well as the all-county first team. She was also selected as the Coast Union High School Female Athlete of the Year for the 2010-11 school year.

As a team, Flemion and the Broncos did a lot of winning in her prep career, including several CIF Southern Section playoff appearances, most notably a section championship in 2011 which qualified Coast Union for the SoCal Regional playoffs bracket.
