Ed Golding
Position: Assistant Coach
Alma Mater: Wisconsin
Graduating Year: 2002
Experience: 2 Years

Ed Golding was hired in August 2011 and enters his second year with the Penn heavyweight rowing program in 2012-13.

"Coach Golding is coming to Penn with a wealth of EARC and Ivy League experience, and I'm very pleased to have him on board," said Penn's Nicholas B. Paumgarten Head Coach of Heavyweight Rowing, Greg Myhr, at time of Golding's hire. "He has fostered considerable success with his freshman teams at Columbia, and I am confident that with the resources now at his disposal, he will continue to expand his record here at Penn."

In his first season with the quakers, Golding guided the novice eight to a win in the Third Final at EARC Sprints - a victory of nearly three seconds. The frosh also picked up two wins in dual races, defeating Georgetown and George Washington.

Golding came to the Schuylkill River after a successful stint at Columbia as the Lions' freshman lightweight coach. This past year, his freshman 8 went 9-1 during the regular season and then garnered a silver medal with a second-place finish at Eastern Sprints.

"I'm excited to be joining the great tradition of rowing at the University of Pennsylvania," he said at the time of his hiring. "In the 14 years I've been around the sport, I've been fortunate to meet many Quakers who, besides being great people, were also first-rate rowers, coxswains, and coaches. I like how Coach Myhr is moving this program forward, and I know that with a lot of hard work and a bit of athletic skill Penn will keep moving in the right direction. I am anxious to help keep Penn rowing on that upward trend any way I can."

Prior to Columbia, Golding spent a year as an assistant coach at Princeton, and before that he spent three years as an assistant coach with the varsity program at the University of Wisconsin. With the Badgers, Golding oversaw the third varsity eight to gold at Eastern Sprints and the small boats to four medals at the IRA Regatta in 2006.

In addition to his college coaching experience, Golding was Administrative Director of the Wisconsin Boys Summer Camp from 2004-06, and he also spent four summers as Head Coach for the USRowing Wisconsin Development Camp which involved training and coaching athletes for local, national and international regattas.

Golding rowed collegiately at Wisconsin, lettering two times as a member of the Badgers varsity 8. In 2000 he helped his boat to third place at Eastern Sprints. Golding also captured a silver at Sprints (second varsity 8 in 1999) and a gold medal at the IRA Regatta (freshman 4 in 1998). He graduated from UW with a degree in economics.

As a member of the USRowing Under-23 National Team, Golding earned a bronze medal at the 2000 U-23 World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.
