THE KICKOFF:

After defeating Army for its third straight win, Georgia State hosts Sun Belt Conference foe Troy Saturday at 7 p.m. at Georgia State Stadium. At 5-2, the Panthers are off to their best start as an FBS program.

> In the 28-21 victory over Army, Dan Ellington hit tight end Aubry Payne with the go-ahead 8-yard touchdown pass with 7:41 to play and the GSU defense made a late stand, sealed by Quavian White’s interception at the 2-yard line with one minute left.

> Inside linebacker Trajan Stephens-McQueen is the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week after setting a school-record with 20 tackles, including 10 solo stops, in the win over Army. Stephens-McQueen leads the Sun Belt with 69 tackles and also leads GSU with two interceptions.

> Georgia State is No. 2 in the Sun Belt and No. 13 in FBS in rushing with 238.3 rushing yards per game.

> The Panthers are also No. 2 in the Sun Belt (No. 25 FBS) with 464.3 yards of total offense per game.

> The rushing load is split between QB Dan Ellington (68.6 ypg, 2 TD) and a trio of backs: Tra Barnett (98.0 ypg, 6 TD), Seth Paige (49.3 ypg, 3 TD) and Destin Coates (36.8 ypg, 4 TD).

> Barnett is the first Panther to rush for 100 or more yards in three straight games. He is second in the Sun Belt at 98.0 yards per game.

> A two-time Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week, Ellington leads the Sun Belt in total offense (294.6 ypg, No. 13 FBS) and touchdown passes (16, No. 14 FBS) while ranking second in passing (226.0 ypg).

> Ellington’s top targets are sophomore Cornelius McCoy (40 receptions, 450 yards, 4 TD; No. 2 Sun Belt in receptions, No. 3 in yards per game) and redshirt freshman Sam Pinckney (30 receptions, 389 yards, 5 TD), who caught two touchdowns in the Army win.

> GSU set school records with 722 yards of total offense, 340 yards rushing, 39 first downs and 39:19 time of possession in its Oct. 5 win 52-38 win over Arkansas State.

> One week later, the Panthers topped their rushing mark with 350 yards in their 31-21 win at Coastal Carolina, which featured three 100-yard rushers for the first time in GSU history (Dan Ellington, 128; Tra Barnett, 110; Seth Paige, 104).

> After playing four of its first six games on the road, Georgia State is now playing a stretch of four out of five games at home.
