BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (May 25, 2012) - The FIU baseball team (31-25) fell to the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (30-28), 12-6, Friday afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark.
Nathan Burns led the Panthers with two hits and three RBI while Aramis Garcia launched a solo home run, his sixth of the season. John Caballero suffered the loss for FIU while SBC Freshman of the Year, Johnathan Frebis picked up the win for Middle Tennessee.
After Hank LaRue put Middle Tennessee ahead with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, FIU and Garcia responded in the second with a solo blast to cut the MT lead to 3-1.
The Blue Raiders put six runs on the board in the third inning to take a 9-1 lead. Tyler James Shantz cut the MT advantage to 9-2 in the fourth with an RBI single scoring Jabari Henry, who tripled off the wall in left center earlier in the inning.
Middle Tennessee and FIU swapped runs in the bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth, respectively to make the score 10-3.
After MT picked up two runs in the sixth, the Panthers came back on a two-run single by Burns and a sacrifice fly by Mike Martinez to cut the lead in half at 12-6. The rally ended there as the Panthers couldn't mount a comeback, ultimately falling 12-6.
The Panthers will close out the SBC conference tournament with a 4:00 p.m. ET Saturday matchup against the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
