2016-17: (XC) Began the year with an 18th place finish at the Stony Brook Invitational, posting a 27:15.7 8K time … Finished 36th overall at the Paul Short Run with an 8K time of 25:25.1 … Competed in the Metropolitan Championships coming in seventh place with a time of 26:44.3 on the five mile course … Ran the Princeton XC Invitational 8k in 24:51.8 coming in 31st overall, and helping the Lions secure a team victory. (T&F) Improved his career best in the 10,000m at the Raleigh Relays, clocking a 30:50.09 ... Posted a 14:53.31 in the 5,000m at the Armory Track Invitational.
2015-16: Part of the first place Columbia team at the Lehigh Paul Short Run, crossing the line in 25:06 ... A member of the Ivy League Cross Country Championship team ... Ran a career best 8:28.12 in the 3,000m run at the Fastrack National Invite.
2014-15: Went 24:58 in the 8K at the Princeton XC Invite (10/18) for a career best ... Improved career bests in the outdoor 5K at 14:52.05, indoor 3K at 8:33.11 and outdoor 3K at 8:41.08.
2013-14: Ran his best indoor mile at the Columbia Invitational (2/1), finishing in 4:21.68 ... clocked a 4:04.14 in the 1500 meters at the Princeton Elite Meet (5/2).
High School: A two-time Illinois All-State honoree in cross country and track, Hanig is a five-time state qualifier. A team captain as a senior, Hanig is a three-time track & field all-conference honoree and a three-time all-regional cross country honoree. He was named Highland Park High School Outstanding Male Athlete in 2013 and was voted 2011 and 2012 Cross Country MVP.
