Anna Groce of Kernersville, North Carolina, has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Sam Houston State and be a member of the Bearkats' nationally-ranked women's bowling program.
Groce is one of the most decorated women's bowlers in North Carolina.
"Anna has a very well rounded resume from academics to bowling," Sam Houston head coach Brad Hagen said. "That is what we are looking for and why we believe she will excel here at Sam Houston. She'll offer some quality depth to what will be a very young roster next season.
Groce joins the Sam Houston bowling program from Robert B. Glenn High School where she has excelled in the classroom with a 3.8 overall grade point average. She stands in the top 15% of her graduating class.
Groce has been participated in some of this nation's largest and most prestigious youth events. The last two years have seen Anna posting back-to-back top 75 finishes at the USBC Junior Gold Championships, a top 20 at the 2011 North Pointe Championships and most recently a top 40 finish at the 2012 Team USA Trials.
"Anna's experiences to date and her work ethic will play key roles in the future success of this program," Hagen said. " This is a young lady who I can tell is hungry to win and willing to go above and beyond to do so which makes her an excellent addition to this programs future."
In its first two years of NCAA Division I competition, Sam Houston State has posted final national rankings of No. 7 and No. 9. The Bearkats consistently ranked among the nation's top 10 teams throughout both seasons, climbing as high as No. 5 in the 2011-12 rankings.
