McGarvie '09 Named to US National Team Roster
BALTIMORE (7/29/12) - Princeton alum Holly McGarvie '09 has been named the 2012-14 US women's national senior team, it was announced by US Lacrosse on Sunday, July 29.
McGarvie is one of 36 players named to the roster after a three-day tryout featuring more than 80 of the top women's lacrosse players in the country. This tea will serve as the training team pool for the team that will defend Team USA’s 2009 gold medal at the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario.
The team will come together for several training events before the final 18-player FIL World Cup roster is announced in February 2013, including Stars & Stripes weekend (Calif.) in October 2012 and Champion Challenge (Fla.) in January 2013. The team will also conduct numerous national team player clinics throughout the year at various sites around the country.
McGarvie has been with the US Lacrosse organization since 2006. She became a member of the national team in 2009 and helped the team win the 2009 Women's World Cup.
At Princeton, McGarvie was named the 2009 Ivy League co-Player of the Year, and is just the third player in the Princeton history to earn Rookie and Player of the Year honors during a career. McGarvie finished her career with two Tewaaraton Trophy nominations, two All-America honors and four All-Ivy honors. McGarvie helped her team to four NCAA Tournament appearances and is in the top-10 in Princeton history in points, assists and ground balls in a career. She was also a four-year letterwinner on the field hockey team.
