Ambika Singh had the highest finish of the six current Princeton fencers to compete on the first day of action Saturday at the North American Cup event in Atlanta, placing seventh in a field of 72 foilists.
Singh, a freshman, was five spots ahead of fellow rookie Hyun-Kyung Yuh, who placed 12th, while juniors Lucilie Jarry and Andrea Oliva placed 31st and 63rd, respectively.
On the men's side, the epee competition took place Saturday, with sophomores Jonathan Yergler and Edward Kelley placing 25th and 29th, respectively. Alumni fencer Tommi Hurme '08 placed 13th in the field of 170, while fellow alum Soren Thompson '05 placed 15th.
The three-day competition will continue Sunday with men's foil and women's saber. Freshman Diamond Wheeler is scheduled to compete in the saber event, while sophomore Robert Malcolm is signed up to compete in the foil.
