Princeton sophomore Kelly Shon shot 70 at Center Square Golf Club in Norristown, Pa., earning a spot in the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.
Shon also played in last year's event in Oregon, but she'll be much closer to home for this year's tournament. Neshanic Valley Golf Club in Neshanic Station, N.J., will host the event June 18-23.
Shon's score was the best among the three qualifiers from the Norristown site, placing her among the 156 competitors in the field for next month's tournament. Qualifying will continue at 34 sites across the country through June 4.
The 156 players at the tournament will play a round each day over the first two days before the field is pared to 64. Those advancing will compete in a bracket format through the rest of the tournament. At last year's event at Bandon Trails in Oregon, Shon advanced out of stroke play at +16 after rounds of 80 and 78 but fell in the round of 64 after 17 holes.
