Richardson, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard, will join the Chippewas as a true freshman this fall.
A member of the AnnArbor.com 2012 Dream Team, Richardson became known as the area's best defender and added an offensive component to his game averaging 12.9 points over the final eight contests.
"We are excited to have Derrick joining our program," said Davis. "His ability to excel academically and athletically at an in-state tradition-rich program will help him make the transition to CMU. DJ also has the unique combination of size, which benefits him defensively, and a point guard mentality which makes those around him better."
The Phoenix went 55-11 over the last three seasons with Richardson, going 16-3 in the regular season and winning the SEC-White title last year. Richardson averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals as a senior.
He joins Cadillac forward John Simons in the 2012 recruiting class.
