JOLIETT, Ill. --- California Baptist University placed all five competitors in the top five, including three first place finishers, in the NCCAA National Track Championships on Saturday.

Six of the seven CBU competitors this weekend earned All-American honors by finishing in the top three of their respective events.

"I've very proud at how well each one of our athletes ran and competed today," Head Coach Ben Gall said. "CBU was definitely represented well today."

Ashlee Cervantes won the women's 800 meter run, setting the school record along the way, with a time of 2:12.25 narrowly beating the finisher from Spring Arbor by 45 hundredths of a second. Both finished nearly three seconds a head of the bronze finisher and the rest of the pack.

In the men's 800 meter run, Chase Williams became the national champion, running a 1:53.01 and finished more than a full second ahead of Donovan Graham from Grace.  Williams had previously earned All-American recognition with a 800-meter title at the NCCAA Indoor National Championships in late February.

Sergio Rodriguez finished with nearly a six and a half seconds margin of victory, recording a time of 9:27.80, the only sub-9:30 time of the men's 3000 meter steeplechase.

"Every runner ran a race to put them in contention and a good spot to win," Gall said.

Mitchell Moore finished second in the 5000 meter run, with a time of 14:59.35. In the women's 3000 meter steeple chase, Naomi Van Setten and Bethany Bilton finished second and fifth, with times of 11:14.99 and 11:44.24, respectively.

Cervantes, Williams, Rodriguez, Moore and Van Setten each earned All-American honors to join Jacquie Lutz who placed second in the women's 10000 meter run on Friday.

As a team, despite limited numbers, both CBU's men's and women's team placed tenth.
