CHARLOTTE - Gardner-Webb guard Donta Harper was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week Monday by the league office, marking the third time this season a GWU player has earned the honor.

Harper (Winterville, N.C. / South Central Pitt HS) made two free throws with 10.9 seconds left to lift the Runnin' Bulldogs to a thrilling, 57-56 win over Delaware State on Saturday night - snapping the Hornets 8-game win streak in the process. DSU entered the game just a half game out of first place in the MEAC standings.

For the week, the 6-foot-6 standout averaged 9.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals. He finished with 11 points, four rebounds and two steals against Delaware State - knocking down 3-of-5 shots and 5-of-6 free throws - and scored seven of his points in the second half.

In two games, Harper shot 66.7 percent from the floor and a solid 75.0 percent from the charity stripe.

Gardner-Webb (12-17, 6-10 Big South) gets back to league action on Thursday night, traveling to face UNC Asheville at 7:00 pm. Asheville clinched the Big South regular season crown last week.

The Runnin' Bulldogs return home for the regular season finale on Saturday, hosting Presbyterian at 4:30 pm as part of Senior Day festivities in Paul Porter Arena. For ticket information, call (704) 406-4340.
