CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Having spent the past two weeks on the road, the VMI women’s soccer team will continue away action one more weekend as the Keydets travel to Chattanooga for a Friday evening match before an afternoon affair at Samford Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama.
The game will be broadcast on the SoCon Digital Network.
The Keydets (1-12-1, 0-5 SoCon) look to return to the win column after last claiming victory on August 29 at Delaware State. VMI is coming off a tough 2-0 loss last Friday on the road at UNCG in the only game for the weekend.
VMI has four different goal scorers to this point of the season all coming from its 4-0 win over Delaware State and one goal against Wofford earlier this month. Whitney Edwards-Roberson, Maggie Beckman, Kiley Cropper and Maria Vargas (2) have tallied the scores this season for the Keydets.
Vargas also leads the team in shot attempts this season with 23 while Edwards-Roberson (22) and Julianne Knoblett (21) are close behind. Natalie Carpenter is not far from the shots lead with 16 for the season.
VMI keeper Sidney Swoope will make her second consecutive start at goal for the Keydets Friday night after returning to the team last week in preparation for the UNCG game.
About the Mocs (8-4-3, 3-2-1 SoCon)
Chattanooga finds itself with eight wins to this point of the year including three straight to open the season. The Mocs earned a tie with SEC opponent Alabama and also have league victories over Wofford, Western Carolina and The Citadel.
Four individuals hold the team lead in goals with three apiece including Hollie Massey, Faith Gober, Samantha Shaw and Emily Szmanski. Four others are close behind with two goals apiece for the season.
Ashton Shields and Abbey Saddler have split time in the net for the Mocs with Shields holding a 5-3-1 mark and Saddler logging a 3-1-2 record on the year.

About the Bulldogs (7-3-5, 4-1-1 SoCon)
League leader Samford has recorded seven wins on the year including four conference victories to their credit. After tying Furman on September 27, the Bulldogs earned four straight league wins over Wofford, ETSU, Western Carolina and The Citadel before falling last Sunday to Mercer by a 1-0 score. The Bulldogs play host to UNCG before facing the Keydets Sunday.
Taylor Yount leads the Bulldogs with eight goals on the season while Kyla Reynolds is second with six. Nikki Bario is also a team leader with four goals for the year.
