Annie Butts was promoted to her new position as Columbia University’s new Director of Enrichment Services on Sept. 27, 2016, Associate Athletics Director for Enrichment Services Jessica De Palo announced.

As part of her new duties, Butts will now manage Columbia’s career development and tutoring program. She will provide guidance and career counseling to student-athletes during their journey of exploring and attaining summer internships, develop, implement and facilitate career forums, workshops and the guest speaker series, assist student-athletes with applications to graduate school and securing employment after graduation, and assist student-athletes in developing job-readiness skills. In addition, she will oversee Columbia’s tutoring and awards program and assist with internships.

“Annie has been an important contributor to the success of the Enrichment Services program and our department” De Palo said. “I know that Annie will continue to work towards our goal of making our program the best in the country. Annie truly cares about supporting our student-athletes and will continue to serve as an important resource for them.”

Butts has worked at Columbia for the past three years as its Assistant Director of Enrichment Services in 2013.

“The past three years at Columbia have been filled with incredible people, experiences, and opportunities, and I want to thank Jessica De Palo and everyone within this community who has helped prepare me for this position,” Butts said. “I look forward to continuing the mission of Enrichment Services to make the Columbia student-athlete experience the best it can be.”

Prior to working at Columbia, Butts served as the Membership and Advocacy Intern at the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) in Kansas City, Mo. While at NACWAA, she assisted with membership tracking, outreach and engagement, collaborated on advocacy communications, and helped in the planning, preparations and production of NACWAA leadership programs and the National Convention. 

A native of Augusta, Maine, Butts graduated cum laude with her BA in English from Mount Holyoke College in 2012. While at Mount Holyoke, Butts was a three-year starter and senior captain of the varsity field hockey team.
