ANNAPOLIS, Md. – With three golfers in the top 12, the Columbia men’s golf team sits tied for second place after Saturday’s first round of the Navy Spring Invitational at the Naval Academy Golf Course.

Columbia carded an 8-over 292 in the first round and is just one stroke back of George Washington, which leads the 20-team field at 7-over 292. Georgetown also shot an 8-over 292. Sunday’s final round will be a tight race as just five strokes separate the top six teams.

Sophomore Jordan Lee led the way for the Lions, shooting 1-over 72 to enter the final round tied for second place. Georgetown’s Brian Dorfman and George Washington’s Taylor Fuqua each shot 1-under 70 to lead the 111-player field. Lee shot a 37 on the front nine and a 35 on the back.

Junior Michael Yiu and sophomore Andrew Kim also had strong first-round showings. They tied for 12th after they each shot 2-over 73. Yiu and Kim each shot 37 on the front and 36 on the back.

Senior Brendan Doyle is tied for 24th after shooting 36 on the front and 38 on the back to finish the day at 3-over 74. Junior Ford Fischer rounded out the five-man team with a 4-over 75 and sits tied for 33rd. He had better success on the front nine with a 36 before carding a 39 on the back.

Sunday’s final round will start at 8:30 a.m. There is an expected 30-degree drop in temperature on Sunday with rainstorms expected in the forecast.
