NEW YORK - Dario Pizzano was named to the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) Northeast Region second team, it was announced on Monday.

Voted the Ivy League Player of the Year in May, Pizzano batted .360 with 16 doubles, four home runs, 36 runs batted in and a .471 on-base percentage for Columbia in 2012.

Drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 15th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft earlier this month, Pizzano tied for the Columbia team lead with 37 runs scored and drew 31 walks. Pizzano stepped up his game during Ivy League play, when he batted .409 with two homers and 20 RBI. Among all Ivy League players, Pizzano finished second in base hits and third in doubles in 2012.

Pizzano will begin his professional career with the Pulaski (Va.) Mariners of the Appalachian League this week. The Mariners' season opener is on Tuesday, June 19 at 7 p.m. against the Burlington Royals.
