Nebraska women's tennis athlete Mary Weatherholt has earned a bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships in singles play. The junior from Prairie Village, Kan. was one of 64 competitors from across the nation selected to compete in the singles championships. Championship play will take place on May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. following the team championship portion of the tournament.

Weatherholt earned a bid to the championships after posting an overall record of 29-9 this season in singles play, including a 21-6 mark this spring. Her total of 54 combined wins this season (29 singles, 25 doubles) is a new Nebraska program record. She peaked as high as No. 40 nationally in the ITA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Rankings this season and earned a 5-3 record this season against ranked opponents.

Weatherholt also earned Big Ten Athlete of the Year honors in women's tennis and was a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection in Nebraska's first year of competition in the conference. Weatherholt was also one of just three Big Ten athletes to qualify as an individual, joining Northwestern's Kate Turvy and Michigan's Emina Bektas.
