LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. --- Playing in its first tournament of the season, California Baptist University currently sits tied for eighth at the Grand Canyon Women's Fall Invite after one round of play.

CBU shot a 317 to finish Monday tied with tournament host Grand Canyon's "B" team at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.

"For our first round of the season it was not too bad," said Head Coach Lane Pace. "Still, those scores need to be lower if we hope to compete here and I have confidence the girls have better in them."

The Lancers were led by Nathalie Silva, who posted a 76 and Kirsten Keyser, who posted a 77. Silva sits in a tie for seventh place individually and Keyser is just outside of the Top 10 in a seven-way tie for 11th.

Playing in her first ever collegiate tournament, Nicolette Gino shot 81 for the Lancers. Samantha Roberts rounded out the kept scores for CBU with an 83 and Samantha Peters shot 93.

"We can still conceivably find our way into the Top 5 tomorrow," said Pace. "It's a work in progress as things always are early in the season."

The Lancers sit five strokes out of fifth place currently. No. 18 Sonoma leads the field with a 303 and No. 4 Grand Canyon sits just two behind at 305. No. 8 Cal State Monterrey Bay finished Monday in third with a 309 and Western Washington, which was tied in the NCAA Division II Preseason Poll for eighth with CSUMB, is fourth with an opening 311.
