REDLANDS, Calif. --- Recently ranked No. 20 California Baptist University used an impressive 15-8 win over Redlands Saturday to tally their thirteenth straight win and cap off a perfect 11-0 record in March.
Petra Kovacs scored six goals in three quarters, including a first quarter hat-trick that propelled the Lancers to a 5-2 lead after the first eight minutes. Mallory Montano's goal at 5:25 was quickly answered by the Bulldogs to force a 2-2 tie, but Christina Webb's (Young) goal less than a minute later provided CBU with the lead for good before a pair from Kovacs.
CBU's lead stretched to 9-2, scoring four unanswered and holding UR to just one goal before halftime. Two more from Kovacs and contributions from Molly Gritchen and Laura Kocsis, her first of two of the game, apiece allowed for the Lancers comfortable 9-3 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs began the second half with a spark, scoring two goals and closing the lead to within four. Tania Acavedo found the back of the net at 4:32 to push the lead back to five and catalyze the Lancers' 4-2 run to end the quarter, including a goal from Alyssa Birch.
Now at 17-7, CBU heads south next weekend for a tough four-game, two day road trip where they will face four Top 20 teams, starting with No. 8 San Diego State and No. 19 UC San Diego on Friday. The Lancers face No. 15 UC Santa Barbara and No. 17 CSU Northridge on Sat., April 7 in Santa Barbara.
