ST. CHARLES, Mo. --- California Baptist University traveled to the Lindenwood Classic Friday afternoon facing Lindenwood University and Limestone College in day one.
In match one of the day, the Lancers defeated the Lions by a score of (25-17, 22-25, 25-21, and 25-21).
"I thought we did a great job of coming out strong against Lindenwood," said Interim Head Coach Allan Vince. "We had great leadership by Daniel (Freitas) who played very well tonight, along with Aaron (McCalmont) who also did well. We had great determination and just got after Lindenwood early in the match and continued to hold on throughout the match."
CBU was firing on all cylinders in the three sets they won. In those sets the Lancers hit over .400 and had better than a 75 percent side-out percentage.
Kevin Kustura had a season high 47 assists against the Lions.
CBU took on the Saints in game two, as the Lancers took the match in three sets (25-22, 25-18, 25-12).
"Our offense came out strong again in the second match against Limestone," said Vince. "I was glad to see the guys starting to get into a groove and play together. I'm excited to see what tomorrow brings and happy to see the guys play well."
McClamont led the charge against the Saints with 11 kills. Freitas managed 10 kills and two blocks, while Johnson fired off six kills and three blocks.
Kustura had 25 assists on the match.
The Lancers will take on Pfeifer University (10 am) and King College (2 pm) tomorrow morning in the second day of the Lindenwood Classic.
The Lancers move to 5-13 on the season.
