LONG BEACH, Calif. --- California Baptist University for the second match in two days went the distance beating No. 7 NCAA Division II Lewis University.

CBU beat the Flyers (19-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9) this moved the Lancers win streak to six in a row.

"The team responded very well tonight and a lot of leadership was shown on the court," said Interim Head Coach Allan Vince. "This team has grown up so fast since the beginning of the season. They are understanding what it means to close out games and continue to fight for points."

Aaron McCalmont led the Lancers with 22 kills on 43 attempts hitting .279 and tallied nine digs. Kristopher Johnson hit .448 with 17 kills on 29 attempts and managed six blocks. Jonathan Tuttle had a big night hitting .476 with 11 kills on 21 attempts; Tuttle also recorded four digs and five blocks.

Jay Petty was the kill leader for the Flyers hitting 267 with 18 kills on 45 attempts.

In the opening set the Lancers had a game low nine kills on 29 attempts hitting .103, while the Flyers hit .290 with 15 kills on 31 attempts. The Flyers had control of the whole set as the score never traded hands nor was it tied.

The second set was the difference maker in the match, as the Lancers came out a completely different team hitting .400 and recording a game high 18 kills. The score was tied 11 times and the lead changed hands five times.

The Lancers pushed the match to five sets after coming out strong in the fourth set hitting .382. The Lancers never lost the lead the entire set.

The Lancers finished the match hitting .343 with 66 kills on 134 attempts.

Connor Metcalfe recorded 59 assists.

"I saw a lot of perseverance tonight and am very proud of how they finished this match," said Vince. "The team is starting to get in sync with each other and really adapting to every scenario."

The Lancers move to 9-13 on the season and will face Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW) tomorrow night at 5 pm.
