TAMPA - The USF track and field program will be represented very well this postseason.
A total of 18 Bulls have qualified for the NCAA East Preliminaries that take place May 24-26 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville. The total marks the most under head coach Warren Bye, who guided 13 USF student-athletes to the preliminary round last season.
"It's a very, very good representation," Bye said. "We've got some kids who can go out, finish off what they need to do and hopefully we'll get them to the next round."
USF's qualifiers had to rank in the top 48 nationally in their respective events. The Bulls will have to finish in the top 12 of each event to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championship June 6-9 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Bulls had four advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championship last year and Bye is hoping the number increases in what has been a season to remember. USF made program history for highest-ever finishes at the Big East Outdoor Championships earlier this month when the men finished second and the women finished third.
