Mobile, Ala. (4/7/12) — The Arkansas State tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to South Alabama on Saturday afternoon in Sun Belt Conference play.

Freshman Tamara Slijepcevic improved to 6-0 in SBC action with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ramona Ghermani in the No. 2 singles match. Sophomore Janie Nowland earned a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over Chane Hines in the No. 3 match, while Mariana Rong picked up a 6-4, 6-2 over Alina Volman in the No. 1 match.

In other singles action Biljana Miloshevska lost to Emily Newton 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 match, while junior Ioana Teu lost to Mary Martin 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 match. Senior Ceara Howey lost to Mariya Krachok 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 6 match.

The Lady Jaguars earned the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. In the No. 1 match Rong and Teu lost to Hines and Volman 8-5, while Jess Heeps-Eriksen and Slijepcevic lost to Krachok and Newton 8-3 in the No. 3 match. In the No. 2 match Nowland and Howey earned a 9-8 (7-4) win over Ghermani and Martin.

The Red Wolves will return to the courts Monday, April 9 for a match against Lamar at Allen Park. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
