Menís Soccer Stands at No. 7 in NSCAA Top 25
OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton men's soccer team stands at No. 7 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll released Tuesday afternoon, following a split last week.
The Jays ended last week with their third-straight shutout of a BIG EAST opponent in three opportunities, blanking Xavier 2-0. Creighton dropped its second match of the year on Wednesday at then-No. 22 Saint Louis, 1-0.
As a result, Creighton fell three spots in the poll to the seventh position in the NSCAA rankings. The Jays are just nine votes shy of the fourth slot in this week’s poll. California claimed the No. 1 ranking this week.
It marks the 43rd consecutive week that Creighton is ranked in the NSCAA Top 25. The 2010 preseason poll was the last time the Jays were unranked.
In the latest NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) released on Monday, Creighton ranks No. 4 overall. The RPI is one of the primary tools utilized by the NCAA for tournament team selections and seeding. The Jays lead five BIG EAST squads listed among the top 31.
Marquette, the Bluejays’ opponent this week, is ranked at No. 28 in the RPI.
The Jays also dropped to No. 7 in the TopDrawerSoccer Top 25 rankings this week, down four places from last week. Creighton fell three spots to No. 7 in the latest College Soccer News Top 30 rankings released on Monday. CU also tumbled three places to No. 7 in the Soccer Times Top 25.
The Jays slipped two spots to No. 8 in the latest Soccer America Men's Top 25 released on Tuesday.
Creighton continues its conference slate this weekend when it visits BIG EAST foe Marquette. The Jays and Golden Eagles will play at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday in Milwaukee.
