Emmanuelle Cor | Freshman | Ugine, France (Rene Perrin)

Hey, this is Emmanuelle Cor from the women’s tennis team of University of Oregon. I come from France, I’ve been here only a few weeks and I’m excited about writing for the first time on the team’s blog!

This weekend was our first individual tournament of the fall at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. For the most of us it was our first matches in a college tournament and we were all really excited about it. After driving to Portland on Wednesday night, we flew to Denver on Thursday morning to be at Colorado Springs in the afternoon and hit some balls the day before the competition. The Air Force campus is more than 7000 feet above sea-level and it was good for us to get a better feel for the ball during this practice. After our practice we went to the hotel and got dinner in a really good Italian restaurant where I tasted my first bite of American cheesecake!

The first day of the tournament (Friday) was really intense for all of us! We were the first team on the tennis courts in the morning and the last team to leave the courts in the afternoon. I won my first college doubles match with Pavlina plus Trudie and Sabina won their doubles too! Julia’s match was really intense and she did a great job by winning it 7-5 in the third set! We all had tough and close matches and after a meeting with the coaches at the end of the day, we were all very ready for the next day of the tournament.

Saturday was our day with a lot of victories! The weather was beautiful and every of us got some color on our faces! We played matches at different times but all the team was along the courts and was cheering each other. It was a really great atmosphere and this is the best feeling when you are on the court during a tough match. At the end of the day we were so happy to get dinner and we packed our bags to prepare to leave for Eugene on Sunday.

We woke up early on Sunday to play our last matches and come back to Eugene. Before coming back to Denver’s airport, Paul drove us in an amazing place called Garden of the Gods. It was for me the way to discover the Colorado’s mountains and how beautiful it is. I really had a great time this weekend and this first college tournament was a wonderful experience for me. I played great doubles with Pavlina and we won our final on Sunday. I’m really happy to be a part of this amazing team and I appreciate all the things that coaches are doing for us individually, as well as a team!!
