Ducks Finish Eighth at the Pac-12 Championships
Release Date: 04/29/2012
“We wanted to shoot par or better today, and obviously we didn’t accomplish that,” Head Coach Ria Scott said.
Freshman Cassy Isagawa (76-72-74-222) had the Ducks’ best round all three days of the tournament, recording her 18th round this season as the lowest scorer. The Wailuku, Hawai'I native had an even par front nine and started the first three holes on her back nine with birdies, before making a triple bogey on the fifth hole. Despite the triple bogey, Isagawa finished with a respectable two-over 74, placing in a tie for 12th overall.
Senior Ashley Edwards (32th-tie, 77-74-76-227) shot a four-over par round and freshman Cali Hipp (77-75-77-229) added to the Ducks scorecard by shooting five-over par and placing in a tie for 37th. Counting as the fourth score for the team was sophomore Raphaela Dyer, who shot a three-over par 75. Junior Cheyenne Hickle (51st-tie, 77-79-80-236) also made the trip for the Ducks.
California (306-283-292-881) captured the 2012 Pac-12 title, earning their second Conference title with their first crown coming in 2003. USC (306-289-287-882) came from behind and shot one-under par on the day, moving up to grab runner-up honors. Arizona (315-288-281-884) battled hard today, shooting a tournament-best seven-under par 281, placing third overall.
On the individual leaderboard, USC’s freshman Doris Chen (77-72-68-217) grabbed medalist honors of the event, becoming the second straight Trojan to win the Pac-12 individual title. UCLA’s Tiffany Lua (77-71-70-218) shot her best round of the tournament at two-under 70 to move up five spots into a tie for second place. ASU’s Giulia Molinaro (71-74-73-218) dropped out of first place into a tie for second after finishing at one-over par.
The seeding for the 2012 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships will be announced tomorrow, April 30, 2012 at 9 p.m. eastern time on www. ncaa.com. The Ducks “remain optimistic, and are willing to work hard to prepare for Regional’s,” Scott said. “Our finish this week has fired them up even more. This was a demanding golf course, and I know it will prepare our team for any of the Regional sites that will be selected for tomorrow.”
