TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Eric Fernandez, a member of the University of Arkansas men's cross country team, will close out the 2011 season Monday at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The men's 10,000-meter race is scheduled for an 11:08 a.m. (CT) start at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course.

"Eric ran a great race at the regional meet to get himself into the NCAA Championships," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "He wants to be an All-American. We're going to do everything we can to represent Arkansas and have a great performance from Eric. He's been a great leader for us in terms of getting the job done every single time he's gone out to run."

Fernandez received an at-large bid selection into the national field following his runner-up performance at the South Central Regional meet Nov. 12 in Waco, Texas. He was one of 38 individuals to earn an at-large invitation. Fernandez was the Razorbacks' top finisher at the regional meet. He currently owns the top 10K time in the Southeastern Conference, posting a time of 29:29.60 at the Chile Pepper Festival in October.

During Arkansas' five-race season, Fernandez was the team's top performer in each competition. He led the Razorbacks to the 2011 SEC team title, the program's 19th and second under Bucknam. Fernandez was the SEC individual champion and went on to be named the 2011 SEC Runner of the Year.

In its history, Arkansas has 11 NCAA cross country titles and two individual national champions in Joe Falcon (1987) and Godfrey Siamusiye (1995, 1996). Overall finish at the NCAA Championships is the determining factor in All-America status as the top-40 individuals earn honors.

A live webcast of the NCAA Championships will be broadcast on NCAA.com beginning at 11 a.m. (CT). In addition, highlights from the national meet will be included as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Seasonal Show scheduled to air Sunday, Dec. 25.
