GUANAJUATO, Mexico – Former Duke All-America diver Abby Johnston returned to international competition for the first time since capturing a silver medal in 3-meter synchronized diving at the 2012 London Olympics, taking bronze in the same event Sunday at the FINA Mexico Grand Prix.

The former Blue Devil paired with Laura Ryan to post a score of 284.70, tying with Australia’s Anna Gelai and Esther Qin for third place. Paola Espinosa and Dolores Hernandez of Mexico won the gold with an award of 295.20 points.

Johnston and Ryan won the women’s 3-meter synchronized competition in their debut as a tandem Apr. 11 at the USA Diving World Cup Synchronized Diving Trails, qualifying the pair to the FINA Diving World Cup July 15-20 in Shanghai.
