World Lax Games Update; USA, Canada into Semifinals

COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—The United States Men’s Lacrosse National Team finished up pool play Tuesday night with a dominant 18-5 victory over Iroquois Nationals. Team USA finished atop the Blue Division with a 5-0 record and will play again July 17 in the semifinal round.

Ned Crotty and David Lawson both earned starts against the Iroquois and notched a goal and an assist apiece in the win. Through the five round robin games, Lawson has nine goals and four assists, while Crotty has seven goals and four helpers.

The United States have outscored its previous two opponents 38-6 after beating England 20-1. They will play the winner of Israel and Australia in the semifinals July 17 at 6:30 p.m. (EDT). The winner advances to the Gold Medal game July 19 at 9 p.m.

Greer Helps Canada to Runner-Up Spot in Blue Division

Canada defeated Australia 12-4 Tuesday night to capture runner-up honors in the Blue Division and earn a bye to the semifinals. Former Blue Devil Zack Greer had one goal against the Aussies and has five goals and three assists overall for the 4-1 Canadians. Team Canada will face off against the winner of Iroquois and Scotland in the other semifinal July 17 at 9:30 p.m.

Rullan Shining for Germany

Former Blue Devil Andrew Rullan continued to shine for Germany at the World Championship. The German squad finished atop the Red Division with a 3-0 record. Rullan contributed eight goals in the wins, including consecutive hat tricks. Behind Rullan’s 6-of-6 performance at the faceoff X and seven ground balls, Germany won its first playoff game 9-5 over Czech Republic. Rullan and Germany suffered their first defeat the following day in a 15-1 loss to Israel. Rullan had the lone goal and went 3-of-9 at the X with three ground balls.

Germany plays England Wednesday, July 16 at 4 p.m. (EDT).

Blue Devils on the Sidelines

A pair of former Blue Devils are on the sidelines for Team USA and Team Canada. Kevin Cassese, Lehigh head coach, is one of the assistant coaches for Team USA after captaining the squad to the 2010 title. Taylor Wray is leading from the sideline for Team Canada. He is the current head coach at Saint Joseph’s. Also on the sideline for Team USA is 2014 Duke Volunteer Assistant Coach Ben DeLuca.
