KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan defenseman Dan DeKeyser has been named a CCM West Second Team All-American as voted on by the American Hockey Coaches Association, becoming the 10th All-American in program history.

DeKeyser, who was also Second Team All-CCHA, is the first All-American since 2000-01 when Mike Bishai was honored as second team selection. The sophomore was also named the CCHA’s Best Defensive Defenseman.

The Clay Township, Mich., native finished the season with five goals and 12 assists, appearing in all 41 games. He regularly logged 30 minutes of ice time and led the Broncos with a +15 plus/minus ratio.

Of the 10 All-Americans DeKeyser is the fourth defenseman, joining Doug Reed (1973-74), Neil Smith (1974-75) and Wayne Gagne (1985-86, 1986-87). DeKeyser helped WMU to its second ever Mason Cup, being named to the CCHA All-Tournament after the Broncos defeated Miami 6-2 and Michigan 3-2 in the CCHA Championship game.

DeKeyser was one of five student-athletes from the CCHA to be named All-American.
