YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team extended their winning streak to three matches, closing their regular season with a tightly contested 4-3 win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles in Ypsilanti. With the win, the Broncos finish the regular season with a 16-10 record, including a 5-3 record in the Mid-American Conference.

The win also clinches an impressive streak for the Broncos, who finish the MAC regular season in third place. By defeating the Eagles, the Broncos have finished in the top-three in the conference for the 29th consecutive season, all under head coach Betsy Kuhle; the Broncos have never finished lower than third with Kuhle as head coach.

The Broncos swept through doubles play to open the day's scoring, a point that proved to be of the highest importance when the teams split singles play. Caroline Aleck and April Kerr were the victors in No. 1 doubles play, being Miriam Westerink and Nino Mebuke 8-4 to open the proceedings. Jill Pastunink and Maggie Remynse clinched the doubles point for the Broncos with a 9-7 win over Daphne Friedrichs and Marcela Rivero, while Kathleen Hawkins and Maria Nivia completed the sweep with a 9-8 win in the No. 2 match.

Singles play would prove to be evenly matched, with each team taking three of the singles matches. Pastunink cruised to a win in the No. 6 singles match, beating Rivero 6-2, 6-2, while Hawkins had a similar result in winning the No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-1. Maria Nivia completed the scoring for the Broncos by winning a second set tiebreaker in the No. 3 singles match, downing Ankita Bhatia 6-4, 7-6 (3).

The Broncos will next be in action at the 2012 MAC Championships, hosted by Northern Illinois.
