DURHAM, N.C. – The ACC recognized the Duke baseball team as one of three ACC Sportsmanship Award Winners for the 2013-14 year. The Blue Devils garnered the distinction along with the Notre Dame Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as well as Florida State swimmer Hannah Wilson.
On April 18, 2014, the team traveled to Blacksburg, Va., for a weekend series against Virginia Tech. The date fell two days after the seven-year anniversary of the school shooting which claimed the lives of 32 Virginia Tech students and faculty members in 2007. When the Blue Devils arrived on campus, they stopped by Burruss Hall where the entire team visited the April 16 Memorial and held a moment of silence in honor and remembrance.
The ACC Sportsmanship Award winners were selected from institutional nominees submitted by each school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and their advisors. To be considered, nominees must consistently demonstrate good sportsmanship and ethical behavior in their participation in intercollegiate athletics, as well as in the community, and be in good academic standing.
