DURHAM, N.C. – One of the top rated prospects in the 2014 class, the Duke baseball program is excited to announce the signing of highly-touted first baseman Justin Bellinger to a National Letter of Intent.
“Simply put, Justin Bellinger is one of the most highly regarded baseball recruits in the 2014 class,” said head coach Chris Pollard. “He is widely considered the No. 1 first baseman prospect in the country. I first saw Justin at the Perfect Game National event in Minneapolis and was blown away by his rare combination of raw power, plate discipline and athleticism. Since we began the recruiting process, I have become more impressed with Justin as a person than as a player. He has a spark of leadership that resonates a maturity beyond his years. Needless to say, we are excited to get Justin to campus next summer.”
Bellinger, a 6-6 left-handed first baseman, is ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect at his position by ScoutingBaseball.com and participated in upper echelon events such as the 2013 Perfect Game All-American Classic, Area Code Games and East Coast Professional Showcase. The Weston, Mass., native boasts elite level power, posting a .415 batting average, eight home runs, 36 RBI and a 1.019 slugging percentage during his junior campaign at St. Sebastian’s School.
Bellinger is not only one of the premier power bats in the 2014 class but also a strong defensive first baseman with balanced footwork and a plus glove.
